Environmentally friendly dining in the Midlands

A new ethical eating enterprise is offering diners a chance to rebalance their carbon footprint.  The ‘Food for Thought’ programme allows diners to have the option of adding just 99p to their bill at participating restaurants to help the environment.

Diners at participating restaurants can donate an additional 99p to their bill, which plants a sustainable tree in the developing world – helping to provide a long-term solution to food and work in the region whilst working to rebalance the earth’s agroforestry levels.

Marvin Baker, founder of Food for Thought, is a passionate supporter of the UN International Biodiversity Day. As one of just 48 official tree planting partners to the United National Environment Programme (UNEP), Food for Thought works to help support biological diversity by partnering with restaurants all over the UK for an ‘ethical eating’ programme.

For every 99p donation, a harvestable tree will be planted in a rural community in Africa, Asia or Latin America – providing essential long-term food sources for impoverished areas as well as helping to rebuild the earth’s forestry and combat global warming.

Whilst Marvin is passionate about the need for us all to take further steps towards protecting our environment, he’s not evangelical about changing our lives in order to do so. ‘That’s why I set up Food for Thought – it’s a way for consumers to continue to enjoy the things they enjoy most in life, such as dining out, whilst making a positive contribution to the planet.

Being considerate to our planet doesn’t necessarily need to mean counting every food mile or travelling everywhere by bicycle. People should be able to make responsible choices without those choices being unhappy ones.’
